Faith When The World Falls Apart: Patience

Date: May 17th, 2020
Scripture: 2 Peter 3:13-15a, Romans 2:4, Hebrews 6:11-12, Ecclesiastes 7:8
Time: 9:15 AM

How can I grow in patience?
1.  God has a plan and I have to allow Him time to work it out.
2 Peter 3:13-15a [NLT]
“But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.  And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.  And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.”
2.  God has a purpose and His patience with me leads me to trust Him.
Romans 2:4 [NLT]
“Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you?  Does this mean nothing to you?  Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”
Romans 2:4 [CEV]
“You surely don’t think much of God’s wonderful goodness or of his patience and willingness to put up with you.  Don’t you know that the reason God is good to you is because he wants you to turn to him?”

3.  God has a prize and I have to do my part to participate in faith.
Hebrews 6:11-12 [NASB]
“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
Ecclesiastes 7:8 [NLT]
“Finishing is better than starting.  Patience is better than pride.”

Faith When The World Falls Apart: Perspective

Date: May 3rd, 2020
Scripture: Jeremiah 29:11, John 10:28-30, Isaiah 55:8-9
Time: 9:15 AM

God’s Perspective:

1.  It’s better and it’s good.
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” – Jeremiah 29:11 [NIV]

2.  It’s eternal and it’s secure.
“‘I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.  I and the Father are one.'” – John 10:28-30 [NIV]

3.  It’s higher and it can be trusted.
“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD.  ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.  For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.'” – Isaiah 55:8-9 [NLT]

Faith When The World Falls Apart: Perseverance

Date: April 26th, 2020
Scripture: Romans 5:1-6
Time: 9:15 AM

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.  And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.”
Promises of Perseverance:
1.  We are justified through Faith
2.  We have peace with God
3.  We have acceptable Grace
How I Persevere:
1.  Start with Jesus
